From One Place To The Next
Pop-Up show by Erik Otto at SummerSchool
June 1st-3rd 2017
1217B Fell Street,(@ Divisadero) in San Francisco
SATELLITE OF. LOVE is pleased to announce the pop-up solo exhibition “From One Place To The Next” by Bay Area artist, Erik Otto, at SummerSchool, in San Francisco, June 1st through June 3rd 2017.
While gearing up for the newest chapter in his career, relocating to New York, Erik Otto has been focusing on an original body of work inspired by alternative perceptions of the human experience. Utilizing new techniques and mediums, correctional tape and paper collage, alongside his best-known mediums of aerosols, enamel and neon lights, Otto explores the power of mental representation. Incorporating his signature rings throughout the layered compositions, he encourages the viewer to investigate, acknowledge and reflect on their own mental state, celebrating the potential of transitions in whatever form they may take. This is the first in a series of pop-up exhibitions for Otto's “From One Place To The Next”, with another to follow this summer in New York.
Join us for the opening reception of “From One Place To The Next” Thursday, June 1st 6pm-9pm at SummerSchool, located at 1217B Fell Street, in San Francisco. Additional open hours are Friday, June 2nd & Saturday, June 3rd 1pm-5pm.
Erik Otto is a mixed-media artist working professionally in the creative disciplines of painting, sculpture and site-specific installation for over 10 years. Erik has held exhibitions nationally in New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Washington DC and internationally in Vancouver, Mexico City, and Berlin. He was selected for the SF Recology Artist-in-Residence Program, received the VSCO Artist Initiative Grant, and produced work for YBCA Bay Area Now 7. He currently has work held in the private collections of the Grand Hyatt, Microsoft, LinkedIn, One Medical Group, and Uber. Erik grew up in the South Bay Area, lived in San Francisco for 12 years, and is now based in Brooklyn, NY.
SATELLITE OF. LOVE is an alternative gallery model founded by Theodora Mauro and Tracy Wheeler dedicated to supporting Bay Area artists whose work they believe needs to be more widely known. In addition to placing art in collections, they specialize in temporary installations in unusual spaces.
“SummerSchool is an evolving concept space in NOPA, San Francisco, run by curator Renee Zellweger. It is an exhibition space where creators and thinkers can experiment, evolve, and present ideas formally (or informally) in a first step towards bigger executable ideas. It is a platform to engage with people who inspire and wish to document their stories and processes as they explore different and more holistic ways to present their work.”
